Practical information for participants arriving in Warsaw
Warsaw is the capital of Poland and the country’s largest city. The conference venue, Novotel Warszawa Centrum, is located in the very centre of Warsaw, close to the Palace of Culture and Science and the city’s main public transport hub. For participants arriving from outside Warsaw, the most important reference point for metro, tram, and bus connections is the stop called Centrum.
The most convenient airport for reaching the conference venue is Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). It is the main airport serving Warsaw and is located within the city, approximately 10 km from the centre. Whenever possible, participants are encouraged to choose flights arriving at Warsaw Chopin Airport, as it offers the fastest and most straightforward access to Novotel Warszawa Centrum and nearby hotels.
From Warsaw Chopin Airport, participants can reach the city centre by train, bus, taxi, or app-based transport services. Public transport connections to the Centrum stop usually take approximately 30 minutes, depending on the selected route and traffic conditions. Taxis and app-based services are also widely available and may be the most comfortable option for participants travelling with luggage or arriving late in the evening.
Warsaw is also served by Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI), located outside the city to the north-west of Warsaw. Travel from Modlin Airport to central Warsaw usually takes approximately 60–75 minutes, depending on the selected connection and current traffic conditions. Participants can use direct coach services to Warsaw city centre, or take an airport shuttle bus to Modlin railway station and continue by train to Warsaw.
A third airport sometimes associated with Warsaw is Warsaw-Radom Airport (RDO), located in Radom, around 100 km south of Warsaw. This airport is significantly farther from the conference venue than Warsaw Chopin Airport and Warsaw Modlin Airport. Travel from Warsaw-Radom Airport to central Warsaw should generally be planned as a longer journey, typically around 1.5–2 hours or more, depending on the connection, transfer time, and traffic.
Warsaw has several important railway stations. The three main long-distance railway stations are Warszawa Centralna, Warszawa Zachodnia, and Warszawa Wschodnia. Warszawa Centralna (Warsaw Central Railway Station) is the closest major railway station to the conference venue and is located within walking distance of Novotel Warszawa Centrum. Warszawa Zachodnia is situated to the west of the city centre and is also connected with long-distance bus services, while Warszawa Wschodnia is located on the eastern side of the Vistula River.
The conference venue is very well connected by Warsaw public transport. The key stop name to remember is Centrum, which serves the metro, trams, and buses in the immediate city-centre area. The nearest metro station is Centrum on the M1 metro line, and numerous tram and bus stops with the same or nearby stop name are located around the venue. Public transport tickets are valid on buses, trams, metro, and selected local trains within the Warsaw ticket zone.
For participants staying in hotels near Novotel Warszawa Centrum or around the Politechnika area, the city centre can usually be reached easily by metro, tram, bus, taxi, or on foot. The Politechnika area is one metro stop away from Centrum and is also served by several tram and bus lines. Participants are advised to check current routes and travel times before arrival, especially if travelling during rush hours.
In general, Warsaw is a well-connected and easy-to-navigate city. For first-time visitors, the most convenient reference points are Warsaw Chopin Airport, Warszawa Centralna railway station, Centrum public transport stop – all of which are close to the conference venue.
